Mission and Values

Our Mission

Make Disciples Who

Glorify God

Make Disciples

Bless our Community

How this is achieved

1. Glorify God

To Glorify God is to recognize, reflect, and respond to His greatness in every area of life. It is not adding to His glory, but displaying His worth through worship, obedience, and devotion. The church exists first and foremost for God; His honor, His name, and His renown.

Key Scripture:

  • 1 Corinthians 10:31 – “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
  • Psalm 29:2 – “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.”
  • Isaiah 43:7 – “…everyone who is called by My name, whom I created for My glory…”

Church-Level Application

  • Services that are God-centered, Scripture-saturated, Christ-exalting, and Sprit-filled
  • Preaching that prioritizes the truth of God’s Word over preferences
  • Ministries that measure success by faithfulness, not just numbers
  • Prayer that seeks God’s will and honors His sovereignty

Individual Application

  • Living with a Godward focus in daily decisions, attitudes, and actions

  • Practicing personal worship: prayer, Scripture reading, and obedience

  • Using abilities, spiritual gifts, time, and resources for God’s purposes

  • Reflecting Christ’s character in relationships, work, and conduct

2. Make Disciples

To Make Disciples is to lead people into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ and to help them grow into mature, obedient followers who, in turn, disciple others. Discipleship is both conversion and transformation, it’s rooted in the Gospel and evidenced in a changed life.

Key Scripture:

  • Matthew 28:19–20 – “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations… teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”
  • 2 Timothy 2:2 – “…entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.”
  • Colossians 1:28 – “Him we proclaim…that we may present everyone mature in Christ.”

Church-Level Application

  • Baptism, Lord’s Supper, and membership as steps of obedience and identification
  • Intentional pathways for spiritual growth (small groups, classes, mentoring)

  • Equipping believers to share the gospel clearly and confidently

  • Leadership development that multiplies disciple-makers

Individual Application

  • Sharing the Gospel with others in everyday life
  • Committing to spiritual growth through Scripture, prayer, and community

  • Being discipled and actively discipling others

  • Walking in obedience to Christ’s commands, not just knowledge of them

3. Bless Our Community

To Bless our Community is to intentionally demonstrate the love of Christ through tangible acts of service, compassion, and engagement by following His example of servant-leadership. It means seeking the good of others, spiritually, physically, and relationally, so that the Gospel is both seen and voiced.

Key Scripture:

  • Jeremiah 29:7 – “Seek the welfare of the city… and pray to the Lord on its behalf.”
  • Matthew 5:16 – “…let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
  • Matthew 20:28 – “…the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,”
  • Philippians 2:1-11 – “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus…”

Church-Level Application

  • Outreach initiatives that meet real needs (food, counseling, support, etc.)
  • Partnerships with local schools, organizations, and ministries

  • Creating a visible, positive presence in the community

  • Serving without condition, while remaining Gospel-centered

Individual Application

  • Loving neighbors through kindness, service, and hospitality
  • Being present and engaged in the community (schools, workplaces, events)

  • Meeting practical needs while pointing people to Christ

  • Living as a faithful witness in everyday interactions

Bringing It Together: “Real Life Faith”

These three purposes are not separate lanes but one unified mission:

  • We glorify God as our highest aim
  • We make disciples as our central assignment

  • We bless our community as our outward expression

And all of it flows from and leads people to Real Life Faith in Jesus Christ. A genuine, lived-out relationship with Christ that transforms both the individual and the community.

PROCESS: We lead people to experience Real Life Faith in Jesus Christ by creating opportunities and environments where:

  • Worship draws hearts toward God and fosters a lifestyle of surrender and praise.
  • Bible Teaching grounds individuals in the truth of Scripture, helping them grow in understanding and practice, equipping them to live out their faith as a member of the Body of Christ.
  • Authentic Community builds meaningful relationships where people are known, encouraged, and challenged to grow in Christ.
  • Ministry & Mission empowers people to demonstrate their faith by developing and using their gifts to meet needs and share the Gospel both locally, regionally, and globally.

Through this process, we cultivate authentic disciples who live transformed lives and impact the world for Jesus.

OUR Vision

The purpose of Oakland Baptist Church is to Glorify God, Make Disciples,
and Bless our Community by leading people to experience Real Life
