Youth Ministry Summer Intern Job Description

Job Summary:

The Youth Ministry Summer Intern will assist the Youth Ministry Team Leaders to disciple middle and high school students through organizing and managing events, in addition to receiving exposure to weekly planning, scheduling, and preparation. This paid position requires an intern to devote 15-20 hours per week working closely with the Pastor and Youth Ministry Team Leader.

Job Duties:

  • Actively participates in Youth Ministry summer program and planning sessions.
  • Assists in the planning and leads implementation of student events, including:
    • Student Ministry Summer Impact Mission Camp scheduled June 23-29 in Danville, VA
    • High Power Soccer (local outreach for children 5-11 yrs) leading youth volunteers scheduled July 22-26.
  • Mentors and disciples students in weekly Bible study. Sets up hangouts before or after scheduled programs.
  • Plans and leads 2 youth outreach events.
  • Observes and learns how to schedule volunteers and communicate with individuals to backfill any empty slots.
  • Contributes to the team through participation in team meetings, seeks servant-leadership opportunities, learns, and envisions God working through them to make an impact on others.
  • Assist other ministries and provide support wherever needed.

Working Relationships:

Responsible to: Pastor

Works closely with: Youth Ministry Team Leaders

Skills Required:

  • Fully committed follower of Christ.
  • Previous experience in working with youth.
  • Demonstrated commitment to unity and willingness to work in a team environment.
  • A motivated self-starter who can meet deadlines while creating quality work.
  • Some computer skills e.g. Google Apps, Planning Center, and PowerPoint.
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal.

Time Required:

This position is a temporary summer internship (mid-May to mid-August) working 15-20 hours per week which includes working weekends and some evenings. Normal working hours will be established to meet summer program schedule.

Training and development:

  • Intern will participate in evaluations and debrief of goals throughout the course of the internship.
  • Reads and participates in book study with pastor and other intern.
